My oldest two children cooking all by themselves. And I mean all by themselves. I was going to help with the pumpkin fritter project (a recipe out of a South African cookbook), but then Harriet needed fed. So I sat on the couch and winced as Cowen managed to get pumpkin hither and yon.
I learned something important. It is easier for me to not be a part of their cooking. Miriam knows how to read the directions. She knows all the measurements. She doesn't need me to micro-manage the cooking projects. And yes, at the end, I did have to do some cleaning up but I didn't see all the mess until clean up time. Simpler.
I did do the actual cooking as fritters are fried in hot oil.
They turned out great. I liked them--and I usually don't like pumpkin things.
PS--I asked Cowen a bunch of questions since it was his birthday. I have now forgotten almost all the answers. Here is what I remember:
Favorite color: red
What do you want to be when you grow up?: "That's confusing because I really want to find bones but I also want to be a really great mountain biker."
What is your favorite book?: "The library book about how you make mountain bikes."
And that is it. I'll have to ask him all the other questions again.

Umm, my kids can't cook. Way to show me up.
Also, I love Cowen's answer to what he wants to be when he grows up.
It's about time you posted another picture of your sweet baby.
Good job mom! Your kids will be great on their own someday.
P.S. Cami loved cooking her fry bread the other day as well. Something about fried foods....they are just SO good! They will make pumpkin even taste good. {But I like pumpkin anyway. ; D}
