Musings on Eli and Two Funny Stories

Eli has a funny sense of humor.

The other day he fell asleep at the table after supper. The rest of us started laughing at him and then Cowen was loud and woke Eli up. Eli realized why we were all laughing so for the next few minutes he would close his eyes, bob his head, wait for a minute, then open his eyes and laugh. It was the bobbing his head that really made the whole show so hilarious.

The picture above was Eli the next day after he fell asleep at lunch. No, he doesn't get enough sleep. He's usually awake much of the night playing happily or banging his head/shoulders against the door or wall. He's done it since he was old enough to sit up. In the middle of the night I'd hear him banging and go in to check on him and most of the time he'd still be asleep. As he got older, he still woke up and banged against things but he was usually awake. Now, he's always awake. I don't know if he just likes the noise or what, but it is weird. Plus, now he has a huge bump on the back of his head and his hair is falling out. I can't imagine the hair falling out has to do with the constant banging because if it did--wouldn't it have happened a long time ago? And if the hair falling out has to do with the large bump on his head--why did the hair start falling out on the top of his head and not the back where the bump is? Now the hair loss has spread all over his head (noticeable mostly to his mom and those who really look--it isn't like the kid is bald). Weird. Kids are weird.

Okay, that was a tangent.

Other funny Eli story.

I use a little white board for reading time during school. Eli likes to have a turn during reading time because white boards are fun. So the other day I was doing reading time with Eli and he was telling me what letters to write on the board. "H" is his favorite letter, so he asked for that one, and then a few others (no, he does not know what the letters look like--he just remembers the names of some of them from the Leapfrog alphabet magnet thingy we have).

Then I wrote down an "S" and said it was the snake letter because it makes a sound like a snake. Eli looked at it and then fell over on the couch holding the board as far away from him as possible while making a scared face and said, "I no like it! It scary!" Then he sat back up and laughed. Hilarious.

Eli has turned into Mr. Grumpy Face himself since Harriet was born. His hair falling out, his not sleeping as much as normal, and his bad attitude all coincided with my bringing Harriet home--although I am not claiming any of those things are in any way related. Strange though. I wish my Happy Man would return and Grumpy Face would go away.

Still love the little guy though--love, love, love him!
