Eli's Observation

Today Eli said to me, for the first time, "Mom, you're weird."

And I said, "Me??? Jack Rasmussen's daughter weird???? Oh contraire, little man, contraire." Or something like that.

As for the other kids, they call me weird on a routine basis. I have no idea what they're referring to. None.

And if you haven't started listening to the pandora station, "Children's Folk Songs," you should. It promotes good things. Like dancing around and singing and Eli running around the house to find me and tell me that he knows this one.

In other news, while I'm rambling along, I declared today a cleaning day. I put Miriam in charge of taking all the books off our billy budd bookshelf and dusting and replacing the books. What a mistake. She's read the back cover of almost every book on the shelves and approximately 8 hours later she's not finished. However, she does have a great little stack of books to read. All of which I approve--they are mine. The ironic thing is that I put her in charge because I have felt a magnetic pull to a certain book for a few days now and I thought if I avoided the bookshelf I could restrain myself. Odds are that despite our dissimilar appearance, Miriam and I are related.

Cowen has been in charge of numerous projects. He's currently cleaning out the garbage can in the tub. It's fun to watch a 6 year old boy sans shirt and socks, with his pants rolled up to his knees, attacking a garbage can. There are a lot of "hi-yahs!"emanating from his direction and rag slapping sounds. He's thorough, if aggressive. He's making some Indian war cry sounds now--it is hard to type and laugh.

Emeline has officially graduated to dish washer. She's taken over lunch. Lovely. She's a pro already.

As for me, I washed all the walls in the kitchen, washed the oven and oven racks, and scrubbed the walls in the hall. I also cleaned the top of my fridge (I was thinking of you the whole time, Lindsay Ann). I'm pretty much amazing. That's why Timothy is bringing ice cream home. We need to celebrate our general awesomeness.

Have a lovely Friday and the rest of the weekend. Go do something weird. Or turn on pandora and dance around. Or clean your oven. Or have your young son clean a garbage can. All these activities guarantee a good time. Hi-yah!
