Julia requested that I write a list of my favorite books on the blog so she can see if there is anything on it that she hasn't read. This is highly doubtful as I lived with her at BYU for three years and recommended books that whole time, and have been recommending books since then, and, quite frankly, I just don't read as much as I used to.
However, I have been wanting to put together a list of my personal Classics, in a Thomas Jefferson Education style. I have barely begun, mind you, but thought I should post my list in short doses as to not overwhelm.
Here is Part One (put together without the benefit of my "favorites" bookshelf as my husband is asleep and I can't turn on the light):
1. The Road Home
2. My Friend Flicka
3. Illusion
4. The Giver
5. My Name is Asher Lev
6. A Separate Peace
7. Life of Pi
8. To Kill a Mockingbird
9. Jonathan Livingston Seagull
10. Gone with the Wind
11. Les Mis
12. Bridge to Terabithia
13. Jane Eyre
14. Wuthering Heights
15. Pride and Prejudice
16. Persuasion
17. Fanny's Dream
18. The Fortune-Teller by Lloyd Alexander
19. A Tale of Two Cities
20. Mrs. Mike
21. Goodnight, Mr. Tom
22. A Solitary Blue
23. Dicey's Song
24. Tell Me if the Lovers are Losers
25. Hobie Hanson, You're Weird
26. One Time, I Saw Morning Come Home
27. A House of Many Rooms
28. Big Doc's Girl
29. A Day No Pigs Would Die
30. Cheaper by the Dozen
31. A Barrel of Laughs, A Vale of Tears

I've read all but five. I don't know how I missed out those five, but I'm sure I'll read them someday. Thats a good list though. I approve.Except that the Road Home is first. I never liked that book.
The list is in no particular order.
Which five haven't you read?
I haven't read a Separate Peace, Jonathan Livingston Seagull, Fanny's Dream, A fortune-teller, A Day No Pigs Would Die, Freak the Mighty, and the Screwtape Letters. Also, on your list I don't like A Solitary Blue, Life of Pi(although, I like that one, I just don't think it should be on a classics list, its not that good), My Name is Asher Lev(I absolutely love this book, but its not really for a classics list either, its for a list of "I threw the book at my sister when I was done reading it and hated it for several days while mulling over it" list) I also don't think Wuthering Heights or Gone with the Wind should be on the list. I like them both. I like Wuthering Heights more. But I don't think either of them are a 'good-book list' quality. Thats my story and I'm stickin to it.
Lindsay wants me to clarify for her--she loves The Road Home and does NOT like Big Doc's Girl. There you have it.
