Query Letters

For those of you who are following the saga of Kayli's and my book--I thought I would update you. First--thank you to all of you who have read it!!!! So far, Kate and I have gotten great feedback and mostly, we've just felt terrific knowing people are reading it and enjoying it. My favorite thing anyone has said so far was the message Polly left on my message machine that said, "I just finished your book and was calling to heap accolades upon you." Thanks, Pol!!! Lindsay's message on my machine was hilarious but I can't write it here as it contained a spoiler. Aunt LaVerle liked it which means a lot considering she doesn't read much fantasy. And Becky even blogged about our book-yeah! So thank you, thank you, thank you for all the praise and love sent my (and Kayli's) way the last few weeks.

For those unfamiliar with the publishing process--it is long and brutal and consists mainly of sending out query letters asking people to read what you've written and getting responses that say mainly, "No way, man." It can take a LONG time. However, right now we are still pretty pumped about having the book ready to send out and the two rejections we've had so far have made us pretty happy. We're in the game finally!! I hope we don't end up like Jessica Day George and get 182 rejections before we hit the jackpot, but there's just no predicting. Ms. George wrote "Dragon Slippers," which is a really fun read, actually. If you have a 10-14 yr. old female fantasy lover, she will probably like that one.

So that's the news for now. There probably won't be any new news for quite some time, as the query process takes forever, but I will keep you posted of any exciting developments. Also--Kayli and I are officially working on our second YA fantasy novel. Obviously, since we don't pre-plan what we write, I have absolutely no idea what the book is about, but my character's name is Adeline and that is pretty cool. I'm sure our "huge" fan group is stoked to find out another one will be done in about . . . a year!

I am loving it too! I sure wish I didn't have ALL these "mom things" to do and get in the way of my reading! : D
I'm off to read some more.

Okay - seriously - keep every rejection and like scrapbook them or keep them in a binder (what I do) because I cherish them now - they're part of the journey - they represent you taking a risk and putting a piece of yourself out there...
