This is for Kami

When I daydream about my future house (or this house in a future state of Andreaness), I can't help but feel a little sad. A) We have no money and never will, and B) my husband will never let me do what I want anyway. The last thing I showed him (curtains) he called "garish." You see the problem. And yet--lately I've been dreaming about my book being a bestseller and the next "must-see teen movie" and since I'm dreaming big and ignoring reality--I'm going to luxuriate in it and daydream about decorating while I'm at it.

So, picture my room with white walls. Not the hideous "I don't know if I am brown or yellow or dark cream" color that now graces the walls on all the upstairs walls. I can't stand the ambiguity. Decide what color you are already! So--white. Or a few shades less white than perfectly white--something identifiably white though.

Then picture this bed. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S99849923. Okay, not really, but I do love it.

The one I want at Civilizzation (a furniture store in Salt Lake) doesn't have a picture. The general idea--a dark chocolate brown with very clean lines and not too bulky.

Then picture this quilt. Ah, I just love it. http://www.anthropologie.com/anthro/catalog/productdetail.jsp?_dyncharset=ISO-8859-1&_dynSessConf=-2757475506099255372&id=893034&parentid=SLEEP_BEDDING_DUVETS&pushId=SLEEP_BEDDING_DUVETS&popId=SLEEP_BEDDING&sortProperties=&navCount=46&navAction=jump&fromCategoryPage=true&selectedProductSize=&selectedProductSize1=&color=ora&colorName=ORANGE. I pretty much love every quilt they sell at anthropologie. Timothy, however, hated them all with equal fervor. And here I thought my favorite one was pretty tame--by my standards. Oh yeah, I'm not worrying about that right now.

So, then in my room would be some basic chocolate brown dressers and this yellow chest: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/categories/series/11731/
In fact--I love that mirror above the yellow "wardrobe" as well and the yellow table. I really like the bed and dressers too. I just think the rest is a little boring. Not too bad--but the white lounge thing has to go. Besides, none of those "extras" would fit in my room. We have to keep things simple.

And instead of boring prints above the bed--something more like this: http://www.allposters.com/-sp/White-over-Red-Posters_i2729315_.htm
I love Mark Rothko. Or maybe a canvas with one really red flower on it and that was all. Kami would be able to find me something perfect. She's like that.

So--there you have it. Nothing too outrageous. I've pretty much given up on red beads hanging from the window with a sheer curtain over top. My husband is opposed to beads in all varieties. In a perfect world though--my bedroom would be fabulous.

so cheerfully modern and minimalist with a touch of warmth...I've always appreciated your bold color choices...and I hope you book sells because you deserve to have your dream bedroom/house - even if timothy doesn't agree with your choices...you guys should make a deal right now - whoever makes more money gets to make all decisions...which is a horribly flawed idea - but could be motivation to keep on writing...ps - I have your same fears...and I dream non-stop about my dream house (at the coast)...

I would have never imagined you being a modern art fan- and Iwaspretty sure I knew you pretty well. The rest is just as I would imagine for you.

I loved all of it Andrea!!!! And compared to some of the stuff I've sent you (Moroccoan themed) that was all completely tame. I have no idea what Tim's problem is with any of that.

That is such a cool post! What a great way to day dream and to get to know you better. For some reason I never pictured you to be a fan of the modern art or furniture. Great stuff. You continue to surprise me.

So funny! Garish is such an underused word. :) Thankfully, Sean and I have very similar decorating tastes, so we don't have to "battle" over curtain choices and other such things. I hope your book becomes a blockbuster hit and you can decorate however you want!! P.s. LOVE the yellow chest and the bedspread!

There isn't really anything fancy about risotto- just stir stir stir while you are adding you chicken stock little bit by little bit(I also put in a little white wine sometimes, you know how I love me some booze). Then cream and cheese to finish off.
I will try to get those recipes for you- keep bugging me.
