Why I Love Being a Mom

Reason Number One: Today I asked Miriam if she needed to go potty. Her response? "No, Mom, I am just going to be the greatest one." I am totally unclear on the thought process that went into that response, but if you had seen her twirling around in a red dress with Cowen's boots on and the look on her face and the tone of her voice--you would have laughed too.

Reason Number Two: Today Miriam and Cowen were playing husband and wife (that happens all the time) and Miriam told Cowen to stand behind her with his hand on her shoulder. Cowen complied. Then he said, "Now what?" Miriam said, "You kiss me on the cheek." At which point Cowen said, "Yuck!" and ran away with Miriam chasing after him trying to get him to kiss her. Cowen yelled, "I don't like your kisses. I only like Mom's kisses!"

Reason Number Three: Cowen was playing with his belt (not leather--just stretchy material of some sort) and stretching it really far to try and get it to fly forward. I sat and watched him for about fifteen minutes and laughed so hard my stomach hurt. First, it kept going backwards. Then, it went flying up, hit the ceiling and ricocheted into the toy kitchen sink. Cowen looked at me with a face of complete astonishment and said, "How'd that happen??" Hilarious.

Reason Number Four: When I tickle Emeline she says in her cute little voice, "You're funny, Mom." Then I say, "No, you're funny." And she says, "NO, YOU'RE FUNNY, MOM!" We continue like that for some time. One of the great pleasures of my life is her little voice. Especially when she says things like, "I'm freezin', Mom." Or when she squeals, "My sockees!!" when her socks are coming off. Or everyone's favorite, "kay" for yes.

Reason Number Five: Watching Emeline run around full-speed naked. I never get tired of it.

Reason Number Six: Eli's sweetness.

Things I love right now: How Coen says "AHHH MAN!" all the time. How when he asked me if he could have a sprinkle donught and I said we didn't have any he brought me the keys and told me I should drive to the store and buy some. How much Coen and Beckett love each other. How when I got home from work tofay Beckett just about jumped out of his skin he was so happy to see me and when I asked why he was naked Uncle Wendel said he is playing in the snow. When Coen wants to he held he says "I hold you". Coen tonight started crying and when I checked on him he was fast asleep standing in the middle of his room with his blanket over his head wailing at the top of his lungs. He stopped crying as soon as I picked him up and when I put him in bed he whispered "Eidelwiess" and before I finished singing the first line he was snoring.
Isn't being a mom great. Thank you for making me think about this.
