Miriam's Head

Last night there was an Elder's Quorum activity in the gym at the church. Of course, the children were running around like maniacs and Miriam fell somehow (the details are all still fuzzy as stories don't match, etc.) on the back of her head--really, really hard.

She came over to me sobbing, and in my usual yeah, yeah, stop crying, you're not dying approach to all injuries I cuddled her for a few seconds then was going to send her on her way. But there was something different in the tone of her voice. Moms, you know what I'm talking about. Then she kept saying, "My head hurts, my head hurts, my head hurts," in this awful way. So I had her point to the part of her head that hurt and I felt around and came across this massive, squishy, hot, horrible bump. Clearly, this was not a run-of-the-mill bump on the head.

Timothy and another Elder that was at the party gave her a blessing then I gave her tylenol and tucked her into bed (while she sobbed the entire time--which actually made me feel better, because she couldn't be mortally wounded and still make that much noise), and fell instantly to sleep.

I woke her up twice during the night to make sure she would wake up. This morning she threw up and said her stomach felt queasy, but she was happy as a clam and otherwise acting perfectly normal. I called Doc and he said to just keep watching her. Then I checked her head and she actually let me look at the bump and it was still squishy and covered in dried black blood, so I called Doc again. He said to keep watching her. So that is what I'm doing. So far, so good. She wouldn't eat breakfast except some kiwi, but otherwise normal. Watch, watch, watch. Keep Cowen from jumping on her. Don't let her dance too vigorously. Watch, watch, watch. Yes--the strangeness of the bump on her head and the sound of her voice did make me nervous. Very, very nervous. And so I watch.

At least she followed the family rule to only get injuries that scare your mother while your father is around. Kudos to Miriam for her obedience!

Reminds me of another bump on the head--and Kix, lots of Kix. Also, for future, I've been told by several doctors never to give Tylenol or any medication following a head trauma--it always makes you throw up and doesn't help any.
