Oh, the Memories

Today I was trying to find the name of my second grade teacher for my dad--who wanted to know. Because I loved her, and he probably taught with her. It's a small town thing. Her name was Mrs. Wood.

While looking for the name, I found three scrapbooks my mom kept for me. Not the cutesy things we make now, but three books with some paraphernelia of my life taped into them.

I won a lot of awards. I say that with a great deal of humility because, as a retired school teacher, I understand why awards are given. I'm fairly confident that my academic achievements are overstated due to general grade inflation and dumbing down of the curriculum. Not to mention an emphasis on positive reinforcement of mediocrity. (If you're not smiling, you're not really getting this.) I also received a great deal of perfect attendance awards. This is probably due to my Dad's general disbelief that sickness exists, let alone in his own family. Trust me on this one.

Here are some of my favorite awards:

1) Bookworm Award (duh)
2) Most likely to be mistaken for a carrot Award
3) Carol Burnett Award (I've also been referred to as "LaVerne" of LaVerne and Shirley fame)
4) Worst Joke Award (what???? me???? Here's one of my favorites: "What's red and not there?" Ans: NO TOMATO!! HAHAHAHAHHAHAHA. I have to stop typing for a minute because I'm overcome with laughter.)

I'm back. I also glanced through some of my cards. One was from a friend who put, in quotes, "I scoff in your general direction." Remember when I used to say that CONSTANTLY and thought it was funny every single time? I do. Hilarious. Remember when I used to kiss elbows? I still kiss my kids' elbows sometimes. They think it's weird.

Sometimes I think it is weird that the spaz I used to be is buried beneath the uptight mom I have become. Who knows when it will next burst forth and do something to make my kids stare and shake their heads. The potential for strange behavior still lurks.

It's still lurking.

Still lurking.

Still lurking.

You're wondering when I'm going to stop.

So am I.

Still lurking.

Go kiss someone's elbow today.

that was a good time.
I remember one time you called and Brett said, "Tell her she can long-distance kiss my elbow" or something like that, and I was thinking- I haven't even thought of that in so long. Weird.
