Although my to-do list has reached epic proportions (along the lines of what my mom accomplishes in an hour--totally overwhelming for a mere mortal like myself), I loaded my youngsters and jaunted off to Provo to hang with Kammers and Co.
We had such a great time.
First we went to the Bean Museum. I never partook of the wonder of the Bean while a student at BYU, so all my memories of the place are from when my family lived on campus the summer I was ten. Or eleven. What age are you before you go into grade six? Anyway, I was surprised and pleased to see that not much has changed. Although, I'm pretty sure the liger is new.
Best of all--we didn't lose any of the offspring. Except Eli . . . I was momentarily distracted by a fascinating lion movie. All the screens are new. I don't remember watching movies there. Now, the dollar theater--different story.
After lunch (Kami makes some yummy bread!), we went to the BEST SWIMMING POOL FOR MOTHER'S OF YOUNG CHILDREN. There should be an official award. The splash pool was big enough that the annoying water toy/slide/thingy in the center didn't splash the outer reaches of the pool, so small children still liked the splash pool because they didn't get splashed. If you don't have toddlers, you have no idea what I'm talking about. The second great thing was the deeper pool was up a hill. That means, again for those of you without small children, that you have time to notice that your child is missing and spot said child as he/she makes his/her escape BEFORE he/she is drowning in the deep water. Brilliant.
And then there were the slides. Fast. Fast and FUN!!!! Miriam could go down on her own, with a life jacket, but Cowen needed me. YEAH FOR ME. I loved them.
Following swimming we went to Macey's for cheap ice cream cones, and then back to Kami's for food where she had leftover hamburger gravy. Yee-haw. Loved it.
Thank you, Susie, for a splendid day!
PS--Favorite thing I heard today: Cowen, "Mom, I saw a husky go by outside. It was wearing a blue collar and this made me think that it was a boy." I love it when he describes his thought processes out loud. Great inferring, Cowen--you're going to be a fantastic reader someday soon!!
PPS--Kami got the hottest pic of my hubby at the last family get together. I drooled over it until Ana started making gagging noises. She's too young to understand. As soon as Kami emails it to me, I'll post. Wouldn't want anyone to miss out.

I also liked the Willowbys. It was a fun read and I am hopeful it would entice a reluctant reader into enjoying the book.
