I made my first laundry detergent. Way easy, but still--20 minutes I could have been doing something else. Worth it??? I don't know. It can't possibly save me that much money. I buy All Free and Clear that says 96 loads for $10.00. That's not very pricey. I'm not concerned about the environmental impact of the packaging--so really it is just the chemicals and stuff that bugs my kids' skin. Hmm. I'm really conflicted on this particular aspect of the crunchy movement.
I met a new person the other day and she knows a homeschooler that I know so that set us to chatting about homeschooling. She was surprised by my criticisms of parts of the homeschooling movement and then I said something to the effect that I was glad that I knew all the crazy homeschoolers because I do a lot of things differently because of them. Then she asked what I did differently and I realized I was hesitant to admit it!! Just because the crunchy movement is going mainstream doesn't mean you want to admit to a new acquaintance all the outside-the-norm things that are the norm at your house. Let's just say that I can count on my fingers the number of times Harriet's hair has been shampooed. And we'll stop there. Don't want to freak you out with talk of mama cloths or anything else even more out there. :)
Looks pretty though. The detergent, I mean. It matches the theme of last week--make things around here pinker.
I've wanted cupboards above the washer and dryer since we moved in 5 years ago. I've wanted some pink walls downstairs for the same duration of time. We finally went to Ikea last week and got a expedit bookshelf and put it up! Yeah! We wanted the cupboards to match the rest of the expedit bookshelves on the walls in the family room that we use as homeschool and toy cubbies. Eventually there will be doors for all the cubbies, but I'm still trying to convince Timothy to let me put up three green doors and one mirror door along with the one more white. He's not convinced. I do not despair, however!! After all, it only took me 5 years to get the pink wall!
The wall is not nearly as red as it looks in these pictures. The paint is called Fuchsia something or other and it is a very vibrant, dark pink. It matches my turquoise wall PERFECTLY. I am getting so much better at this picking paint business. I only had to buy two samples before hitting pay dirt.
What is inside the first cubby.
And the second cubby.
And the third cubby.
The laundry piled up to be washed. Having Timothy work on the laundry area of our house for two days put me really behind. I do laundry all day, every day.
The clothes waiting to be folded. No good reason for it being piled so high.
The "art" hanging across from the washer and dryer. The pink matches smashingly. We are repainting that wall--not because we're jazzing up the color but because Eli was a stinkbug about wall art. The entire downstairs has to be repainted. Sigh.
But I LOVE my pink wall. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it.

I made my own laundry soap for the first time a few months ago. Same reason as you. My kids get really itchy with most laundry soap. Ending up costing about $3-$4 for a 5 gallon bucket. Hope your family likes yours.
