Today Eli put away two pairs of shoes (after I'd told him repeatedly to do it) and then he marched over to me, his chest all puffed out proudly and announced, "I'm hard working, Mom!" Something like that, little man.
The other day Miriam asked me, "Mom, can I call the police department and ask if they have any mysteries I can solve?" Hee hee. Love the way her brain works. Today she wore her Sherlock Holmes hat almost all day, and waved the pipe around when she talked. She also wrote me a message in code. It was awesome.
On Sunday we made mummies (pics to come) for our family activity. Yes, I was behind in our home school activities but it involved the whole family and everyone had a good time so I still think it counts as wholesome recreational activity.
Anyway, I realized as we made the mummies, that my hating crafts is actually ADVANTAGEOUS as a homeschool mom. Timothy was helping the kids with their mummies until he got distracted making his mummy, and then after he was done making his mummy he was distracted playing with his mummy.
Miriam's mummy was a girl, Lithia, and Timothy's was a boy. When Miriam tried to play mummies with Timothy and Eli she said, "Hi, I'm Lithia," in an exaggerated female voice. Timothy immediately said, "Hi Lithia, been dead long?" in a flirtatious voice. Then he said, "Want to see my pyramid?" You had to hear the suggestiveness his voice conveyed but it was hilarious. I said, "What kind of games are you teaching the kids to play?" Then I giggled at Miriam's mummy's attempts to flirt back.
I think everyone should use that line though--"Been dead long?" Classic.
Everything has been ancient Egypt around here lately. Today the kids were out in the dirt hunting for Egyptian artifacts. Then they packed a suitcase (literally) and took one of the Egypt library books as a "tour guide" and wandered around the house viewing "Egyptian culture." Miriam came up with it, of course.
My favorite though was when Emeline ran up to me and said, "Have you seen my zombie?" Then she paused, looking puzzled. Finally she said, "Mummy, not zombie. Right?" Yep.
Hey cute thing, want to see my pyramid?
