Miriam's Quilt Making

Miriam making her first quilt.  She picked the fabric and washed, dried, and ironed it.  Then I cut it into squares (Miriam cut a few but I was a little paranoid about wasted fabric and sliced off fingers).
Miriam put out all the squares onto the floor and put them into a design.  Then she sewed all the squares together into rows.
Miriam sewed the first two rows together, but then she had a hard time handling all the fabric lying around the machine and so I sewed the rest of the rows together.
 A quilt top!

Mom came and helped us put the quilt on and Lindsay came to chat and help as well.  We got the quilt on and then Mom showed Miriam how to tie.

I sewed the border the next day, and just like that Miriam had a new quilt.
There she is asleep on the bottom bunk under her new quilt.
Mom helped me tie a second quilt that day.  The main piece of fabric was purchased years ago and Miriam hemmed the edges to make a tablecloth.  We got a new, larger table making the tablecloth defunct.  Since we are always in great need of quilts, and especially with Harriet moving into a big girl bed when Little Boy Blue arrives, I decided to turn the tablecloth into a quilt.

I repurposed.  Aren't I trendy.

I bought the red material and back at Joann's.  The quilt ended up a little more narrow than some of my others but I didn't need to piece the back and it is plenty big enough for a twin sized bed with a small child in it.
Mom helped me tie it after we took the kids home to Timothy.  Yay for Mom!!!
I was amazed at how adding red to the sides of the fabric brought out all the blue.  Colors are weird.

Great job, Miriam!!!!!!!
