April 15, 1986

After school I mist the the bus.  I ran to my Dads school wer he werx.  He wos in a medding.  I woked to Grama’s.  She wos there.  Grampa wos ridding with Tirin.  On the cerech.  Grama cut a ses of bred.  Then She asked if I wonted hunny or plane buder.  I had plane buder.  She foned my Mom.  Mom sed she wos coming at five.  I plade with dolls.  Then Megan and Amy came from lefbrig.  The frst thing they set wos wy won frst plaes.  Grama cut bred four Megon and Amy.  Thy had cheess.  Grapa came in his wagon.  I ran awtside.  jumpet on.  We stopet at ant Jooty. Tirin got Alesha and Twila.  And Ceraly.  wen Mom came we went to Dads school.  Grama gave Mom some sques with a jelly bene.  After a Ceren and Tim and there kids came. Amy plade with Cady.  I plade with tena and Kami and Lara.  Wen we went home.  We had hot fuch.  Wen Ceren and Tim went home.  We had a little tock weesed family pers and hopped in to bed.

(After school I missed the bus.  I ran to my Dad’s school where he worked.  He was in a meeting.  I walked to Grandma’s.  She was there.  Grandpa was riding with Tyrin.  On the carriage.  Grandma cut a slice of bread.  Then she asked if I wanted honey or plain butter.  I had plain butter.  She phoned my Mom.  Mom said she was coming at five.  I played with dolls.  Then Megan and Amy came from Lethbridge.  The first thing they said was, “We won first place.”  Grandma cut bread for Megan and Amy.  They had cheese.  Grandpa came in his wagon.  I ran outside.  Jumped on.  We stopped at Aunt Judy’s.  Tyrin got Alicia and Twylla.  And Kara Lee.  When Mom came we went to Dad’s school.  Grandma gave Mom some squares with a jelly bean.  After Karen and Tim and their kids came.  Amy played with Katie. I played with Tina and Kami and Lara.  When we went home we had hot fudge.  When Karen and Tim went home we had a little talk.  We said family prayers and hopped into bed.

*Mom, was Megan and Amy in Lethbridge for a choir competition?  Mom already told me that Karen and Tim were her friends, Karen and Tim Forsythe.  I remember them vaguely because I slept over at their house once when Mom and Dad went on an overnighter somewhere.

*Aunt Judy is my dad’s oldest sister.  She lived is this really cool house in town (Cardston) for a few years.  Tyrin, Alicia, Kara Lee, and Twylla are some of her kids.  So is Keston, who also gets mentioned frequently in this journal.  Alicia was in my class at school in grades 1 and 2.  Tyrin would have been 11.  How do you spell Kara's name?

*My dad taught at the junior high down the street from my elementary school.

*Grandpa Lloyd (my dad’s dad) let me drive the wagon and team around the neighborhood a few times.  He was always patient, always kind, and always good for something yummy out of his garden.  His green thumb is legendary.  He had a grey horse named Bob that I remember really well.  He also had a chariot and a really cool tack room.  Grandpa took me to the hospital when I was five and got my thumb smashed in the swinging door between his backyard and side of the house.  There were scissors on the tray the nurse brought in and that freaked me out.  I often think of the sign hanging in Grandpa’s house: If you treat your wife like a thoroughbred she won’t grow into an old nag.

*Grandma referred to here is my step-grandma, Ruth.  I don’t remember my grandma Mildred who died of cancer when I was four, so when I say Grandma I’m talking about Ruth.  She told me that when I was little I used to call her all the time on the phone and sing to her for ages.  The thing I remember most about Grandma as a little girl was how often she bore her testimony.  She also frequently expressed gratitude for grandpa and how well he treated her.  Her first husband was not very nice, from all reports.

*Another side note, not long after this journal ended my dad made me a snazzy wooden microphone.   When people came over to our house I would make them sit on the couch while I stood on the piano bench and sang “The Gambler” to them.  I was Kenny Roger’s biggest fan.  I wanted to be the next Queen of Country ala Reba.  Years later, when I was attending BYU, I went to a Kenny Rogers concert and HE SPOKE TO ME!!!!!!!  True story.

*I still talk about food a lot.

Lynn, did Kenny Rogers talk to you or were you a huge fan? Either way--awesome.

Lindsay Ann--brilliant. Squares makes sense.

Kami--I updated Twylla's name. Does anyone know how to spell Kara's name???

Kayli--brilliant. And yes, I want to put your pics everywhere possible because I love them so much!

Mom--I swear we had a party line in Leavitt. I'm dreaming, I guess. I edited my blog post accordingly. We have to be accurate for posterity's sake. :)
