My kids had their first welding lesson when we went to a metal-worker's shop last week for a field trip. Pretty awesome.
Emeline, Cowen, and Eli all tried welding. I tried to make sure Harriet kept her eyes closed and tried to ignore the risk of bodily harm as she ran up and down the pipes on the floor. She never fell.

Every father's dream. Well at least my dream. That's pretty sweet that he let them try. Did he talk about different types of welding? or just MIG?
Excellent field trip.
Cheers,
Brett
Brett, I have no idea what MIG is. I'm sure this wounds you. I'm sorry. I didn't get to hear all of what the man said because I was watching the two babies. However, I was impressed when he showed the kids the difference between iron and aluminum by burning a bunch of holes in a sheet of aluminum with a torch of some sort. He also converts bikes into electric bikes and a bunch of other stuff. His workshop was awesome. There was even a knife stuck in the wall above the door. He said it ended up there when he got frustrated with something. Not it works as a fun way to risk your life by entering the shop. Ha. You would have liked him.
Oh yeah, he also bent pipes two or three different ways. That was pretty sweet.
