Today Lady Harriet had yet another inflamed bug bite so her hand was twice its normal size and so was her attitude. The girl needed extra love and attention. After she drove Eli nuts during his turn reading to me by following along with her finger and saying everything he said two beats later, I told her she could "do math with mom."
I pulled out a Sandra Boynton book about numbers and we counted together. Harriet was so proud. She kept saying, "I do math, Mom." Or, "I math time with Mom." Awesome.
But the highlight of my *long* beautiful day with her was when she was whining and clinging to my legs so I couldn't move and I said, "Harriet, would you like an almond or a carrot stick?"
She paused, thoughtfully, and said, "No. I want peanuts and cracker jacks."
Hee hee. I still cannot stop laughing.
And just so I remember when I'm 90 I'm going to document that today at Cowen's football game, I watched the most heartwarming sight. At the games Eli and Harriet put on their own flag belts and chase each other, or other little kids wearing flags, around. Today Eli and Harriet took off across the field (opposite where the boys were playing) and together raced around. When I looked over to check on them Eli was carefully helping Harriet with her flag belt (it slips) and then he put his hand on her back and guided her toward the rest of the kids. So gentle, so careful, so Eli. They love each other so much!
And, typical of Harriet, later during the game she marched over to me and said, "I play with Cowen, Mom."
I said, "Sorry bubs, you're too little."
So Harriet said, "I be right back, Mom." Then she ran away right toward where Cowen was playing. She was not intimidated at all by the 3rd and 4th graders. I started to go after her but the team was having some sort of break so Cowen ran over and brought her back. Love your spunk, little one.
