I did mention that we celebrated Oskar's birthday sort of haphazardly. In point of fact, I forgot his birthday completely in the house chaos. Fortunately, my friend Marilyn had a candle and pudding handy.
It worked out beautifully, as you can see. Oskar was surprised and then pleased by the traditional singing of the birthday song. He didn't mind at all that Harriet blew out his candle.
He liked figuring out the wrapping business.
He even liked the attention from Youngs and Nielsons alike.
Astronauts are quite helpful.
And yep, that was the last he saw of his toy that evening.
Hey guys, that looks like fun. Mind if I try? Over here--the smallish one. You know, the birthday boy and all. Nope, you're keeping it? Right-o then, I'll play with this lovely wrapping.
Thank you, Marilyn, for making Oskar's first birthday so lovely. Not too harass you further, but I still don't have a certain rosemary bread recipe. Or salmon chowder recipe, when it comes to that. Hint, hint.
Oskar, darling boy--we adore you. We are eternally grateful that you're a part of our family. Happy birthday.
