Poor Cowen

On Friday I took the kids to Megan's house. Lindsay was there babysitting when I first arrived and Megan got there a little while later. The kids had a great time. They went sledding, they played with the new castle toys, they dressed up like Vikings, and played Dance Revolution (not as Vikings).

Before we left, Megan cut up apples for all the kids as a snack. Cowen was downstairs when the apples were eaten so he didn't get any.

When it was time to go and I managed to get my children into the van, Cowen noticed that Miriam had snagged three apple slices on her way out. He and Emeline were both outraged, but while Emeline eventually let it go, Cowen did not. He cried (loudly--as only passionately outraged 6 year old boys can), he stomped his feet, he in general made himself unpleasant. I tried to jolly him out of it then gave up on that and stopped the van and threatened to whack him with the ice scraper (if it worked for Uncle Denver . . .).

Cowen stopped crying, but as I started the van again he said, "Fine, I'm just the useless boy that no one bothers to feed."

If you'd ever hefted this kid you would question the veracity of his alleged starvation.

I seem to remember that I fed him mac and cheese on this very same afternoon, and he threw most of it away, after I made Anders sit there and eat all of the second helping he had gotten himself. So, you can tell him, his Aunt Lindsay fed him.
