To illustrate the scripture he told the story of Nephi getting the plates (scriptures) from wicked King Laban. What really made the lesson though, were the props. Our imaginext castle was Jerusalem and the drawbridge the city walls.
In the first picture you'll notice that wicked King Laban is a the captain from our imaginext pirate ship. Laman is Laman, Nephi is Nephi, Lemuel is Lemuel, and Lehi is a wise man from a nativity set because Tim couldn't find our Lehi or our Sariah. The Book of Mormon figurines are a courtesy of Tim's grandma. She gives us some every Christmas. We LOVE them.
Here is a close-up of the family on their way to the wilderness. Obviously, not everyone is represented.
This is after the brothers have been sent back to Jerusalem to get the plates. Laman met with Laban to discuss the plates before Laban rudely threw Laman out.
Timothy turned the castle/city around for the scene where Nephi returns to Jerusalem and finds Laban drunk and passed out.
Close-up of Laban being drunk and disorderly.
And this is the money shot--what sold the whole thing. The pirate Captain has a layer of armor that can be taken off. So after slaying him, Nephi could actually remove Laban's clothing and put it on himself to fool Zoram into giving him the plates. Brilliant!
Another view of the defrocked Laban.
We all, needless to say, LOVED this lesson. We also loved Tim's treat--puff wheat squares. He was annoyed with the recipe though, and for a moment I felt like Mom. "What kind of syrup?" "Dark Karo, of course," "Well, you should write that on the recipe!"
"Why does it have two different boiling times?" "One is for Canada and one is for Utah." "You should write that on the recipe!" Alrighty already!

LOVED the FHE lesson. That truly was BRILLIANT! I loved the guy who represented Laban. Very cool.
Andrea, that is amazing. Can we have Tim come do that lesson for us? Of course the props are a must.
