Junior World Explorers and Other Matters

This is Emeline racing toward the swings. It's not that interesting of a picture, I realize, except LOOK HOW BIG SHE LOOKS!!

Funny Emeline story--this morning she had Trix for breakfast and it took forever because she had to look for the "yallow" ones in each and every bite and then point them out to me (often incorrectly) before she could eat the bite. After her first bowl, I made her eat Kix because they are ALL "yallow."

(For those of you who know me and know that I don't like cereal and almost never buy it and are confused right now--don't worry, this is a weird abberation due to a good sale and pregnancy exhaustion.)

For school today we were "explorers" at the Ogden Beus Pond Park. Or at least, Lindsay Ann and her kids and my kids were explorers. I spent most of the time at the chiropractor's.

In this picture, Miriam is being Pocahontas and Cowen is being John Smith, as we've been learning about Jamestown the past week. That John Smith had one crazy life and one bad temper! Cowen liked it when he was thrown overboard by a bunch of Frenchmen who didn't like that he was English.

Also in the picture is Cassidy, Hailey, Vixie (the new sheltie dog of WYATT'S--not mine), and Emeline.

Cute faces.

Looking at the ducks and geese.

They found this wild animal in their explorations! Ha. Poor puppy was mauled the whole day.

Pocahontas taming the wild beast.

Exploring a strange landform.

Miriam holding up her John Smith book report.

Cowen holding up his timeline circle for Jamestown.

More exploring.

Helping Dad plant one of the two maple trees Mom bought. We are in desperate need of shade in the backyard. Timothy spent the whole morning clearing weeds by the sandbox, but so many prickles got into the sandbox this summer, that we're going to buy new sand next summer. Drat the weeds!

Emeline looking all cute and grown-up. I took pictures of her because she was "tagged" but I've decided to post the tag on her birthday since it is so close.

See--her ears only poke out a little bit now.

Miriam holding up her book report and the really awesome John Smith book we read. The guy really had a crazy life--you should read it!

Close-up. Her picture is the fort they built in Jamestown.

Love it! Very cool!
It's funny how many kids think that Pocahontas is a fictional Character made up for a Disney Movie.
My kids absolutely LOVE dragging their genealogy books to school to prove them otherwise. Not only is she real....but she is on our family tree! (Yours too then I guess. : D ) It's a great history story of her and John Smith. My kids also love seeing the disappointment on their friends faces too, when they tell them that John Smith was NOT married to Pocahontas either. Ha HA. Hollywood sure knows how to mess with kids' minds.
