Pocahontas and other trauma

Another day of school. I'm sure many of you don't care what we do in school, but it's my blog--so I'll write about what I want. Including this exceedingly long and long and long and never-ending day.

This is the kids making patterns out of connecting cubes. Thanks again for the math manipulatives, Dad!! (Ha--as if he ever reads blogs.)

Today we read a book about Pocahontas and then we cut out four feathers for each child, and the kids told me what they learned from the book and we wrote one thing they learned on each feather. Cowen remembered great stuff like the Indians almost bashing in John Smith's head and Powhatan having a sweet bow.

After I helped the kids write their four things--they put the feathers on an Indian headband and finished decorating it.

Emeline really likes "yallow."

I would have been really pleased with the whole idea except that I was a bit moody/overtired and overreacted a smidgeon to the mess and Cowen's penchant for using half a bottle of glue for one small item. Sigh. Things that normally don't bother me at all, but today seemed enormously bothersome.

Modeling their headbands.

Okay--this is where the trauma comes in. While I went for pizza (it was a very, very, very long day--okay), somebody in my house took it into his head to cut my baby's hair. I don't want to rat on him, but I'll give you a hint. He's the other grown-up that lives here.

What was he thinking?? I really don't know. All I know is that she was supposed to get her birthday pictures next week and now she looks absolutely ridiculous and I cried when I saw her. I thought the person who committed this atrocity liked me. I guess, as Dad would say, I should think again.

Who would do this to an innocent girl???

Clearly, she doesn't realize what happened to her head.

It is slightly amusing that this is what happened when I told her to smile. The hair--not the slightest bit amusing. And the kicker--the unnamed barber DOESN'T EVEN THINK HE DID ANYTHING WRONG!! Why? Why?? WHY??????

In other news--well the other news is good and deserves its own post when I have forgiven the unnamed barber. Don't hold your breath.

Okay - my wonderful, over-tired, totally creative, amazing, home-schooling-mama of a friend - tell me what color she's wearing for her pics and I'll make her a no slippy clippy made especially for short hair. No pressure - but if it would help - I'll slip it in a package (if you want one or two or three - let me know by tomorrow night and I'll get them out saturday and you'll have it by monday) - besides - I need to get this pile of dark chocolate off my desk before I decide I need it for myself...lots of love and good wishes for a better tomorrow...becky

Okay....at least he seems to have learned how to cut with scissors in a straight line. I am impressed how straight the cut is.
Okay....I know. Not helping. : S

But I think your friend is onto something. There are SO many cute things for short hair out there that could really dress her up for her birthday pic!
Just a thought.

But you know what? I think she is just adorable no matter what. Look at her smile!!! : D

Well I will not be so nice and encouraging as the rest of this lot- The barber is a super rat fink!!! That poor little child. She looks pitiful. This is like when my neice decided she didn't want bangs the day before our wedding and cut them off at the roots. Thank goodness for headbands- you can't even tell in the pictures. Becky's hairclips are amazing and you should totally take her up on the offer. I love you and you are amazing. I can barely make cold cereal when I am pregnant- how you homeschool is beyond me. You are awesome!

Except that now, when no one decides to do anything with her hair (myself included) it still looks decent, rather than messy.

And I know a little bit more about cutting hair, which should come in handy later...

Also, take note that Andrea failed to post any pictures of the back of her head, which I think turned out looking very cute, and girly, thankyou very much.
