Getting Back on Track

Why is Cowen wearing tights? Hmm. I wondered the same thing when I saw him. So I asked him. His reply? "Sometimes princes wear tights when they get married." Translation: "I've been spending too much time with Miriam."

Emeline's outfit is also stellar. Both of those items are technically "doll clothes."

Eli wearing the AWESOME sweater Kayli gave Cowen when he was born. I still love it. Notice the hair. I am no longer apologizing for having an opinion--the kid's hair is more orange than blonde. So there all of you who insist he's only blonde.

This picture actually pertains to the title of this post. Yesterday and today we (drum roll) had school!! Not only that, we used our chore charts, had devotional, and had school. Not only that, we had family home evening on Monday and I've read my scriptures both days. I think I can retire for a week and rest on my laurels.

Just kidding.

Yesterday we made a poster about chores that colonial children had to do compared to chores that Miriam and Cowen have to do. Then we drew a picture of a chore in our art books. Fun stuff. In addition we read, did math, and I read them the first half of a book about Paul Revere (the whole book was about 80 pages--I was impressed that Cowen sat through it--they loved it and have been practicing rowing across the river without the British seeing them).

Today we did math and then we talked about how colonial children also had fun. One of the fun things they did was whittle. Then we watched a video on YouTube of a guy whittling a face. It was pretty snazzy. I LOVE YouTube for homeschooling.

Then, as you can see--we whittled using a bar of soap and a plastic knife.

The kids LOVED it and are already begging to do it again.

This is my "North Wind" sculpture. It was originally supposed to be a carrot. The key to whittling, I think, is looking at the finished product and deciding then what it is, rather than deciding beforehand what it will be.

In other words--I stink at whittling.

This picture is purely to show off the ring Cowen's been sporting for the last few days. Manly, I think. Matches the tights anyway.

The point of this post is to pat myself on the back for being a good Mom for two days. When I think about that too long, I begin to feel a little pathetic. So I'm going to stop thinking about it, pat a little harder, and go eat some dark chocolate Raisinettes. WHO THOUGHT OF THAT??? I'm never going to lose weight and I'll have to wear Wyatt's red frog pants forever.

You are a great mom! I have embraced that our house is having a messy week and that is okay. We are building a lot of train tracks, and yesterday we went to the Dermatologists office (alone with both kids for my whole body check- that alone deserves some kind of reward) went to the bank and grocery store all before 9:30 in the morning- I rightfully decided to take the rest of the day off and proceeded to take 7 hours to do 2 loads of laundry.

LOL! Love the way your kids think. Of course Princes wear tights!!!! That's what they seem to wear whenever they look their best. So cute!

You are just chalk FULL of ideas. Love the whittling of soap with plastic knives. So smart! What soap are you using. Some soaps are softer than others.

Good job. Whittling looked like lots of fun. Glad you are feeling better and getting back into the swing of things.
