Today did not go as planned

I have yet to have a school day go entirely as planned. I know, I know, it is always like that. Usually not the first two weeks though! Miriam complained all week that her finger "burned." Since she hadn't touched anything hot and I couldn't see anything wrong, I ignored her. Last night she showed me her finger again and it was swollen and nasty looking. Tim diagnosed an infection. This morning it looked worse, so to the doctor we went. Taking all my kids to the doctor was never that bad until Cowen decided, recently, that he was completely unable to control his energy. A doctor's check-up room is really too small to contain as much energy as Cowen produces. Between the doctor's and the pharmacy, it was a long morning.

By the time we arrived home, it was lunchtime. I fed the children, put Emeline down for a nap, and then pulled out our two books on Audubon. We looked through them and read some of them, and then picked a picture of his to copy. Cowen painted wolves and foxes (yes, Audubon did paint things besides birds). Doesn't Cowen look like such a Rasmussen in that picture, or is it just me?

That book Cowen is reading has nothing to do with school today. It's about diving horses in Atlantic City. Miriam took the picture. No, she isn't allowed to touch the camera. Cowen sure looks cute, though!

Miriam and I both painted blue-jays. I am not and have never been artistically inclined. I find no pleasure in trying to create in that way. However, it sure is fun to see what my kids come up with. Great blue-jay, Miriam!
