Today

Today was Wednesday. That means we got to hang out with Ahnika and Ty. It was lovely. First, we practiced our bee-boppin' bug choreography, then we read the book Bug-a-licious. I highly recommend finding it at your local library. It's all about the different insects people eat around the world. Nasty. Very, very, very nasty.

Then we made mud (choco pudding).

Then we drew pictures on wax paper and filled in different parts with blended up crayons (my house is a waxy mess. For future reference--bad idea: trying to steam the papers on the crayons so they'll be easier to peel. Good idea: have Timothy help me peel crayons while watching two episodes of the office on Hulu).

Since this was Julie's and my first wax paper and crayon melt art, we made some mistakes. First, we didn't put paper down over top of everything for easier clean-up. Second, we let the kids put as many crayon shavings on their waxed paper as they wanted. That doesn't make for very interesting art. However, the kids had a great time and Julie and I think we'll do it again so obviously it wasn't that bad.

After that, I tried to put the movie Rascal in for the kids while we cleaned up. Alas and alack the movie didn't work!!! This was really annoying because last Thursday we had our first official book club meeting (we meaning Julie's family and my family). We'd read Rascal and then we got together to discuss the book and watch the movie. The kids were fantastic. They answered all my questions about the book, talked about it, were terrific. Then I pulled out the movie I'd got in the mail from Netflix and it was broken. Grr. Not good timing for a faulty movie when you have six small children excited and ready. So the fact that the replacement movie didn't work today was more than a little aggravating. GRRRRR. I stuck in War of the Buttons instead (which, if you haven't seen, you need to--oh my, you need to).

After Julie and I got cleaned up we made lunch for the kids. After lunch the kids roller pinned two cookies to make dirt, added it to their mud, and buried some gummy worms in the mess. Yummy, disgusting hilarity ensued. All the kids loved eating their worms out of mud and dirt, although Miriam wouldn't eat hers until I confirmed that it was really pudding and not mud. For heaven's sake, she watched us make the whole thing! Funny, funny.

My horse, Goldie, (Dad's horse that I claimed for myself) had to be put down today. Sad, sad. She was so beautiful.
