Shields and Spears

My hubby is amazing. I pulled him out of his sickbed (not his deathbed--although that makes a funny image in my head . . . I know you're dying, Sweetheart, but could you help me with one last homeschool project??) to help me make shields and spears. I'm so glad I did. I tried to eyeball a circle. Ha. Then I tried tracing my largest bowl--but it wasn't large enough. Then Timothy made one of those circle makers just using a pin and string. WHO ELSE KNEW THIS WAS POSSIBLE??? Don't tell me. It will just make me feel bad that I had no idea such a thing was possible. Timothy is awesome.
I glued on the fabric over the cardboard shield while Timothy made the spears. They turned out awesome.

Cowen with his completed shield.

The whole crew painting their shields.

Miriam stuffing peppers. According to our library's Native American cookbook, stuffed peppers was a favorite of the Navajo people. We also had quesadillas because Native Americans in the desert made tortillas. I KNOW IT'S A STRETCH. Work with me here people.

This is Julie saving Ty from a run-in with some deadly sticker weeds. I tell you, my back yard is the place if you want kids crying and bleeding and begging to be let back indoors.

The students made bead/feather things to decorate their spears.

Julie wrapped the spears with string and secured the decorations. She's awesome. They turned out way better than I ever expected.

Cowen loves his. He told me he was being "ferocious" for the picture. Terrifying.

Miriam tried to be ferocious also. Hilarious.
