We drove out to my mom's today for two very good reasons: 1) because I was super cranky; 2) to adopt a dog from the Cache County Humane Society. Whose workers, unlike the Ogden center's, are nice.
We adopted Wilson. On a trial basis. He gets two weeks.
Pros of Wilson: 1) he has no interest whatsoever in Eli or what Eli is doing. 2) He hasn't jumped up on anyone (except my Mom once, a half-hearted jump up). 3) He has let the kids pull and pry and act like kids and hasn't been bothered in the slightest. No nippiness, no annoyance. Nada. 4) He's pretty. The pound listed him as border collie, but Dad is pretty sure Australian Shepherd, which is ironic because that's the kind of puppy I wanted to get but didn't because it is a herding breed. Yes, I know border collie's are a herding breed also but the people at the center said he was very, very mellow for his breed and super sweet. He was mellow all day, except when he met Dad's horses. I'm pretty sure he wanted to herd them. That would be a bad idea as my dad pointed out to me that if Wilson herded any of his horses through a fence, Wilson would get an immediate lead adjustment. (For those of you who don't know what that means, let's just say Wilson wouldn't like it, but wouldn't be bothered for long.)
Cons of Wilson: 1) He hasn't been trained AT ALL. He doesn't even know his name. Or come. Or stay. Or sit. We're starting from scratch here only with a 2 year old dog and not a puppy. I'm not sure how that is going to play out.
But, Wilson has two weeks to win us over. So far, he's heads and tails above Phineas.
