Does getting Miriam to and from dance in a timely manner mean that my day was a success and I'm a good mom? That was all I did. Quite literally. I was sick, sick this morning so we got off to a late start. Then the children dawdled over their chores (and I sort of let them when they were cleaning up the yard because it was overcast and lovely and they were playing together so well), so chores took fffffffoooooooorrrrrrreeeeeeevvvvvvvvvveeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrr. After lunch (yes, chores took until lunch!!!) we did do some math. That was awesome. I am having such a great time with Miriam and math this year. Thank you, The Thinking Company. She likes math puzzles a lot more than math drills. Cowen and I played, "What's the Secret Number," where I give him clues like: it is a number after six but before eight. He likes that game and giggles like a maniac when he figures out the answer.
Then Miriam and I bonded over tickling/cutting her toenails and doing her hair. No, I did not do her hair until 3:00 pm. I'm okay with that. Then it was off to dance, then back home to homemade mac and cheese (Cowen's request, and since I haven't made a real pre-planned meal in weeks, I'm starting to rely on those types of suggestions) and tomato slices. Timothy left for school shortly after we ate (we eat late on ballet night), and then I proceeded with the ritualistic hysteria of getting the children to bed. Then I watched movie trailers on youtube while the dishes sat in the sink (in hot, soapy water--I was determined to get them done tonight) and I thought periodically about actually washing them. At one point, I thought I heard Timothy pull up in Gus, and that galvanized me into action. I was five minutes into washing the dishes before I realized that Timothy wasn't home or he'd be inside. I finished the dishes anyway since I was already at the sink.
When Timothy finally got home (not that it matters in the end--he's too busy doing homework to come to bed with me anyway . . . lame, lame, LAME), we did Christmassy things. Fun!!! Just a few more presents to buy and I'm totally ready for that most wonderful season of all. Cannot wait!!!! Especially since it is supposed to be 80 degrees on Saturday. I would enter an expletive to express just how deep my dismay is over this continued warm weather, but I don't swear. So I have to be content using words like "disgruntled" and "disheartened" and "darn it!"
I got off track. So despite not accomplishing anything today, I'm going to go to bed. For tomorrow is another day, wherein I can do nothing of any great value. I must rest up for it. And if Timothy should ever join me in bed, I should be rested up for that as well. Good night!

Yup! I would call it success at my house too.
P.S.. Hot weather?? Oh how I wish. It is SO bone chilling cold already up here. Sure wish it would snow so that at least we could have the beauty with the cold weather. Everything is so brown now. Even the pretty fall colors are blowing away.
How come you have to rest up for tim to join you in bed? Sounds a little shady.
that was doc ,not brooke obviously
I am so impressed that you are almost ready for christmas!!! I thought i was doing good, but not that good.
dang, wish i could get this to work so I could tell you how much I enjoy reading your blog and wish you could send some nice weather down here
really, I don't think any book could possibly be as hilarious as your blog. I appreciate humor in others as I am totally lacking in it myself. You remind me of Grandpa Rasmussen.
