Random

Today I went on a hike with my sister Lindsay, her baby Ruth, and my kids.  Oh yeah, and Patsy the dog.  We went on the Indian trail and it was gorgeous--so green.  The beauty of the hike is not the point of this post, however.  The point is that we passed several people on the trail and one of them was an adorable younger lady with 4 boys that looked around age 12.  Again, the boys are not the point.  The point is that when Eli and I walked by this lady a fabulous smell surrounded us momentarily and then it was gone.  Eli said, "That lady smelled like something yummy."  Very rarely am I jealous, but really, that lady DID smell yummy.  Since my skin reacts badly to most scented products and since 99.9% of artificial scents give me blazing headaches, I'll probably never smell yummy.  Sniff, sniff.  But Eli asked ME to marry him when he's big, not the yummy-smelling lady, so I guess I'm still okay.

I love it when 3 year olds say funny things that are almost, but not quite, normal.  When we took a short break in a clearing during our hike, I told Eli to go climb on a tree that had fallen over and he said, "I'll break my knee!"  Hee hee.

Tim just went and bought chocolate covered cinnamon bears.  Any other addicts out there?  Anyone?  Anyone?  Bueller?

I weeded my garden tonight.  Be proud of me.  I don't enjoy gardening.  I thoroughly enjoyed picking into the peas and eating the biggest I could find (another three days and the kids and I will be able to eat peas to our hearts content), but I would just rather not weed, no matter how many profound life lessons can be gleaned from the exercise.

The kids started tennis lessons last week.  They love them.  Cowen has his last baseball game this week and he is very bummed that it is over.  I finished putting together the summer reading program for my nieces and nephews--yeah!  Now I wait for my favorite young people to start calling me up and telling me what they liked and didn't like about the books.  I love, love, love that part.  I also love the part where we get together (the kids who participate) and party.  Last year we watched Sense and Sensibility together and periodically I get crazy urges to call my nieces and say, "F Major" or "I wish you'd stop!"  Good times.

The end.

Any chance your cousins could see your summer reading program? I'm having a hard time keeping up with my 10 year old. She goes through them so fast!
