Here are some pics from the Summer Soiree of which I was in charge. Let's just say that I REALLY miss Activity Committees. The theme was "Garden Party" and so people dressed up if they felt so inclined. We tried for an old-timey feel so one lady came in a flapper outfit. Awesome.
I made the lemon mousse cake and used a bunch of ideas from Amy's catering business. The cutest part were the veggies in the cups with dip on the bottom. They are so colorful and fun looking. The cucumber sandwiches were inhaled and I was bummed that I only snagged two. Those things are delicious.
Brownie bites.
For the entertainment, Timothy put together a bunch of TV theme songs from all eras. Everyone listened to the theme songs and then got a point for all the TV shows they could attach to the songs. It got intense and was everyone's favorite part of the party.
Then we divided up and people went to different tables where they could earn more points (there was a surprisingly fierce competition for the grand prize--a trophy purchased from DI with 3 Milky Way chocolate bars duct-taped to it). The picture above show the "Wherein the Ball Must Go Through the Basket" table. The picture below is the "Wherein the Past Comes Back to Haunt You" table (history trivia). There were 10 tables in all. At one table people had 3 minutes to make paper airplanes and got points for how far they flew. Another table was sporting trivia ("A Sporting Event"), another was listing as many US presidents in 2 minutes as a person could remember ("How Presidential"). Etc, etc.
The party went really well. People liked the food, the decorations were fabulous, the entertainment was awesome (all Timothy--he's the man). Some things I learned: 1) my ward doesn't participate in anything; and 2) doing away with Activities Committees is probably the most perplexing thing the church leaders have ever done. Bar none.
