Little Boy Blue is Definitely Not a Little Girl Pink

Well . . . as definite as an ultrasound can be.  I had the 20 week ultrasound today and Little Boy Blue was very cooperative in all matters.  Even better, everything looked absolutely normal.  Crazy, I know. The placenta looked to be all in one piece and was a good distance from the cervix making placenta previa less likely.  Little Boy Blue had all his digits and apparently has gymnast aspirations as he had his legs straight back over his head most of the time.  Periodically it looked like he was nibbling on his knees.  This is the first ultrasound I've had that I saw a baby's jaw moving.  Pretty cool.

Also pretty cool is that they gave me a dvd of the proceedings and my kids and I watched it tonight.  They really liked watching the heart beat and giggled like crazy when they saw the baby kick.  Good times.  Cowen was the most interested and he identified an arm before I did.  Smarty pants.  If my mom ever read my blog she'd surely shake her head at this post as she still maintains you can't see anything recognizable in ultrasounds. I have to disagree--ultrasounds are pretty advanced these days and it is pretty easy for anyone to pick out the basics: leg, arm, head, profile, spine, heart.  Even kids can do it!

Now that we know Little Boy Blue is sticking to his earlier boy inclinations I can start picking out fabric in earnest.

It's good to know the placenta appears normal--maybe we'll grow this one a little more effectively.
