Really Funny Things Said Over Thanksgiving Weekend

The first thing isn't funny so much as sad.  Timothy and I fought in front of the kids for the first time (I should say, we fought in front of Emeline and Cowen as the other kids weren't around).  Nothing too intense--but definitely some negative vibes and raised voices and general unhappiness.  Emeline was made nervous by what she had witnessed and made a love note to me from Tim.  She tried to get Timothy to give it to me but that did not work so she tried to give it to me as though Timothy had given it to her to deliver.  She and I had to have a little talk about what it means when mom and dad fight.  I think she felt better after our chat.  I loved her sweet gesture and attempt at smoothing the waters.  What a tender heart.

My niece, Olivia, came to my house one day and I immediately put her to work doing everyone's hair.  It was awesome!  While she was doing Harriet's hair she kept Harriet entertained by asking her questions about her favorite things.  What's your favorite color, favorite food, etc.

Then she asked, "Harriet, what is your favorite animal?"

Harriet (age 3) replied, "Wild pigs."

Pause.

Olivia, "I have to say, I wasn't expecting that answer."

Even funnier was what happened after Olivia finished Harriet's hair.  Harriet ran to her daddy to show off her fun braids.  Timothy said, "Your hair is so pretty!"

Harriet replied, "The black girl did it."  I guess we don't see a lot of brunettes at this house??!!

Olivia and I laughed for a long time over that one.

My favorite funny of the holiday was said at the Bean Museum at BYU.  A bunch of us went there for an animal show and to look around.  Eli, my darling dear one, had stayed by me the whole time and was happily snuggled next to me on a bench while we waited for everyone to gather because it was time to leave.

While we were waiting my mom hugged Cowen and said, "You never visit me anymore, Cowen.  I'm beginning to think you don't like me."

Cowen: "I LOVE you!  It's just my mom!"  (I'm pretty sure he meant he needed me to drive him and I haven't lately.)

Eli: "Yeah, she's junk."

??????????????????????????????????????????????

First, where did he learn to use the word "junk" in that way?  Second, this is ELI we're talking about.  I wanted to say something witty like "y tu Brute," but I was laughing way too hard.  Mom and Kayli were laughing right along with me so Eli became a little embarrassed and scooted even closer to me, making the whole thing even funnier.  Classic.

Good times.  Very good times.
