July 2, 2016: Cowen's First (and only, so far) Mountain Bike Race

Way back in the summer, Cowen rode in his first mountain bike race.  He was so excited.  He practiced for the weeks leading up to--training on hills, and biking with his dad, etc.  The race was at Snowbird, so we drove quite a ways to get there, and then hauled babies up the hill to the starting point, and made a family excursion of it.

And then the race lasted all of 7-10 minutes, and we all felt a little let down.  The race was for a bunch of different ages and experience levels, so in the pictures you see a mass of people.  Cowen's age group was the second to last to leave the starting line, and he had a different, much easier, course than the older riders.  The boy needed a harder course.

As to how he did--we're not sure.  We never bothered to look up the results online afterwards.  We know for sure that we arrived late and so Cowen was at the very back of his age group, which was large, and so his initial position was not enviable.  Timothy was at the finish line taking pictures and he thinks Cowen came in fifth, which would be totally awesome considering it was his first race and he was at the back to start.  Even if it wasn't fifth, he was definitely one of the early finishers.  He thought it was awesome, but too short.
